The Great Adventure: Mountains, Grandmas, and Missing School – 4 Jul, 2026

Section 1: The Grandma Situation (And Why I’m Basically a Nurse Now)

Okay, so Baba forgot to write in my diary for, like, FOREVER. Rude. But I’ll forgive him because GRANDMA WAS SICK, and that’s, like, the most dramatic thing ever. We all went back to the countryside for a whole week, and Mama was basically a superhero nurse, running around taking care of Grandma. I tried to help, but apparently, “helping” means not touching the thermometer or asking Grandma if she wants to share her medicine with me. (Spoiler: She does not.)

Sudo diary section 1

But guess what? Grandma got better! And now we’re back in Saigon, and I’m officially a genius for surviving a week without school. (More on that later.)

Sudo diary section 2

Section 2: The Countryside Buffet (Or: Why Grandma’s House Is the Best Restaurant Ever)

So, at Grandma’s house, I didn’t just sit around being sad about Grandma. NOPE. I was basically the queen of snacks. Want to eat something? Grandma would make it. Want to eat it again? Grandma would make it AGAIN. It was like living in a magical food castle where the only rule is “eat whatever you want, whenever you want.”

Sudo diary section 3

I tried to explain this to Mama when we got back to Saigon. She just sighed and said, “Sudo, we can’t have ice cream for breakfast every day.” EXCUSE ME? That’s literally the only logical way to live. But whatever. I’ll just wait until she’s not looking.

Section 3: The Mountain Adventure (Or: How I Became a Hiking Legend)

Okay, so originally, we were supposed to go to the BEACH for summer vacation. The BEACH! With sand, and waves, and probably a million seagulls to chase. But then someone (probably an adult) decided it was a good idea to go to the MOUNTAINS instead. Mountains! Where there’s, like, dirt and trees and NO SAND. Ugh.

But you know what? I crushed it. Like, LITERALLY crushed it. Baba said I walked 13 KILOMETERS. THIRTEEN. That’s, like, a million steps. I don’t know how many, but it’s a lot. Baba called it a “miracle,” but I call it “being a natural athlete.” (Also, I may have cried a little. But only because I was tired. And hungry. And tired of being hungry.)

We went with Uncle Linh and Uncle Huy, and they kept saying stuff like, “Sudo, you’re so strong!” and “Sudo, you’re a mountain goat!” I don’t know what a mountain goat is, but I’m pretty sure it’s a compliment. So I’ll take it.

Section 4: Back to School (Or: Why I Missed It More Than I Thought)

So, today was my first day back at school after the whole Grandma/mountain adventure. And you know what? I MISSED IT. Like, a lot. I missed my teachers, I missed my friends, and—okay, fine—I missed the snacks. (But don’t tell anyone I said that.)

Baba said I was “glowing” when I came home. I don’t know what that means, but I think it’s a good thing. Maybe it means I’m a school superstar now. Or maybe it means I’m just really happy to be back where people understand that “no” is not a real answer.

Anyway, that’s my dramatic life update. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go convince Mama that “one more cookie” is actually a medical necessity. Wish me luck!
