The Great Car Seat Caper: I Was Just Borrowing It, I Promise

The Supermarket: A Land of Wonder and Temptation

Yesterday, Baba took me to the supermarket. For those of you who don’t know, the supermarket is basically my personal kingdom. There are snacks. There are toys. There are approximately one million things that adults say I cannot touch, which means I must touch ALL of them.

I was on my best behavior. Mostly. I only grabbed three things I wasn’t supposed to. That’s practically a world record for me.

But then — THEN — we found it. The Car Seat Section.

The Car Seat: Love at First Sit

Okay so apparently, car seats for kids are a Very Big Deal. I have heard the adults talk about how important they are — something about keeping babies safe and it being the law and blah blah blah. According to the very serious grown-up world, a good car seat is like one of the most important investments a parent can make. Fine. Sure. I believe it.

But here is what NOBODY tells you: these things are also extremely fun to sit in.

I found one on display. It was puffy. It was cushioned. It had little armrests. I felt like a QUEEN on a THRONE.

Naturally, I decided my little sibling needed to experience this luxury too. So I picked them up and plopped them right in the seat so we could share the royal experience together. We were living our best lives. Two babies, one magnificent chair. A moment for the history books.

  • Cozy? Check.
  • Cute? Obviously.
  • Mine now? …I thought so.

The Accidental Heist of 2026

Here is where things get a little fuzzy.

We finished looking at the car seats. We started walking toward the elevator. We went DOWN the elevator. We were almost at the exit.

And I was still holding my little sibling.

Now look — I am three years old. I have a LOT going on in my brain at all times. Colors. Songs. Whether that dog outside is friendly. What snack I want next. You cannot expect me to remember EVERY little detail like did I return the baby I borrowed from the display area. That is simply too much to ask.

In my defense: I did not MEAN to walk out with them. They were just… still in my arms. It happens.

Toddler logic, people. If it is in my hands, it is mine. This is not a crime. This is just how physics works when you are three.

Baba to the Rescue (Or the Ruiner, Depends Who You Ask)

Right as we were about to make our grand exit, Baba looked down and — with the eyes of a man who has seen too much — immediately understood what had happened.

We went back upstairs. I walked very seriously, like I was also concerned about the missing situation and had absolutely nothing to do with it. Very professional of me.

And here is the miracle: the security guard uncle and the store aunties had NOT noticed yet!

We returned the little one quietly. Nobody said anything. We walked away. Clean getaway. The whole operation lasted maybe four minutes.

  • Items accidentally taken: 1 baby sibling
  • Items successfully returned: 1 baby sibling
  • Criminals caught: Zero (that is ME, baby)

What I Learned Today

Nothing. I learned absolutely nothing. Those car seats ARE very comfy though, and I stand by my earlier assessment that they are excellent thrones. If you are a parent who has been thinking about getting one for safety reasons, well — apparently they are really important for keeping kids safe in cars. Get one. Just maybe do not let me sit in the display model unsupervised.

Baba says I need to be more careful. I say Baba needs to be more fun.

We have reached an impasse.

Until next time, Sudo. Age 3. Criminal record: spotless. Technically.
