Sand Castles, Ball Pits, and a Very Tragic Knee Situation

Diary of Sudo — Age 3 (and very, very experienced in suffering)

🌊 The Beach Incident (A Horror Story)

So. The beach.

Baba and Mama thought it would be a FUN idea to take me to the sea. “Sudo will love the sand!” they said. “It’ll be magical!” they said.

NOBODY mentioned the waves.

Those waves were TALLER THAN BABA. Do you understand how tall Baba is?? He is VERY tall. And the water just… came. Like a giant angry monster charging right at me. Obviously, I did the only rational thing a genius toddler could do.

I screamed. Loudly. Epically. With my whole entire soul.

The beach plan? Dissolved. Gone. Poof. Into the sea, just like my dignity.

Apparently, my reaction was “a little dramatic.” Excuse me, Mama. I was nearly eaten by the ocean. I think screaming was the CORRECT response. According to science, toddlers experience fear responses very intensely — something about big amygdalas and small life experience. Zero to Three explains it well. So technically, I was just being developmentally appropriate. You’re welcome.

🏖️ The Sand Pit: A Comeback Arc

But HERE is where Sudo shows her TRUE brilliance.

Did I let the ocean defeat me? NO. I am not a quitter. I am a problem solver.

I found a sand pit. A perfectly calm, wave-free, zero-ocean-monster sand pit. And I got to WORK.

  • 🐋 One whale (very majestic, very large)
  • 🐻 One bear (powerful, dignified)
  • 🏰 A full castle wall (for protection from future waves, obviously)
  • 🪣 Several very impressive big sand buckets

Art. Pure art. Sand play isn’t just fun — it’s actually great for fine motor skills and creative thinking. NAEYC says so. So basically, I was doing brain development. Baba and Mama should be thanking me.

The ocean lost. I won. Moving on.

⚽ The Ball Pit Discovery That Changed Everything

At the hotel, there was a ball pit.

I just want to sit with that for a moment. A BALL PIT. A whole room of colorful squishy balls that I could JUMP into and THROW and ROLL AROUND IN.

This is the greatest human invention. I don’t care what Baba says about electricity or the internet. BALL PIT. THAT IS THE ANSWER.

And then — and THEN — I heard Baba and Mama whispering about getting me one. Like a real one. For our HOME.

They said something about it maybe being a Christmas gift.

It is currently March.

I have to wait until DECEMBER?? That is approximately one million years away. This is cruel. This is unusual punishment. I am a TODDLER. I do not understand “later.” I understand “now” and “more now.” Child Development Institute explains that toddlers live in the present tense. So scientifically, making me wait for Christmas is going against my developmental needs.

I’m just saying.

Anyway, the trip ended with lots of food and fun. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. One star deducted for the wave incident. The wave knows what it did.

🚲 The Bicycle Parking Tragedy

When we got home, Baba tried to park my bicycle at the nearby parking garage.

Every. Single. One. Refused. To take bicycles. Anymore.

Just… no more bikes. Apparently that’s a thing now. The garages gave up on bicycles. They just QUIT. Honestly, same energy as when I refuse to eat broccoli — you just have to know when something isn’t worth it.

So now my bicycle lives in the stairwell. It’s fine. The bicycle seems okay with it. I think.

🩹 The Park. The Slide. The Fall. The End.

Today, I came home from school, and Baba took me to the park. The SLIDE was there. Glorious. Fast. Perfect.

I was having the time of my life. Sliding, climbing, sliding again — I was in my element. I was THRIVING.

And then Mama called. Time to come home.

Now, if I had been a sensible person, I would have walked carefully. But I am not a sensible person. I am Sudo. I RAN.

And then I fell.

My knee met the ground. The ground was not gentle. My knee lost.

Baba cleaned it up with water and salt water, which, for the record, was NOT a comfortable experience. The whole thing hurt very much. Tonight my little leg is very ouchy and sad. 🙁

According to parenting experts, minor scrapes and cuts are a totally normal part of toddler life — it’s actually how kids learn about physical boundaries and body awareness. The American Academy of Pediatrics says cleaning with water is the right move. So Baba did good. But it still hurts. That’s my official statement.

I hope my little knee feels better tomorrow.

It has been quite a week. I went to the beach and screamed at the ocean. I built sand whales. I discovered ball pits. I came home to a bikeless parking situation. And then I fell at the park.

I am THREE YEARS OLD and I am EXHAUSTED.

Goodnight. Please send healing thoughts to my knee.
