The Grand Night Out, Baba’s Ancient History, and My Fall Recovery

The Great Night Out & Baba’s Ancient Credentials

Dear Diary,

Last night was HUGE. We went SO far. Like, unreasonably, magnificently far. I don’t fully understand geography yet, but I know it was a journey.

The occasion? Thầy Tân is going to compete in something called the Olympic Tin Học — which is apparently a big deal Computer Science Olympiad. I have no idea what that means. But the name sounds very important and also very long. I support it. Mostly because going out to celebrate meant I got to go to a restaurant with a ball pit and a slide. PRIORITIES, people.

While Baba was over there socializing with all the aunties and uncles — doing the whole grown-up talking thing — I was THRIVING in that ball pit. Launching myself down the slide. Living my best life. This is what peak performance looks like at 25 months old. According to The Bump, I should be doing make-believe and pointing at things in books. WRONG. I am doing extreme slides.

Now. About Baba.

I learned something last night. Thầy Tân is a new student — K51. And Baba? Baba is K39. I did not do the math myself (I’m 2, give me a break), but apparently this means Baba is… a lot older. Like, historically significant. Like a museum exhibit but he can still pay for dinner.

  • New students: K51
  • Baba: K39
  • The gap: OMG 😂

I love you, Baba. You are vintage. Rare. A classic.

Also — because Baba was having drinks with everyone, he could NOT drive my vehicle home. And I, being only 2 years old and also lacking a license, also could not drive. So we had to take a taxi. The taxi cost a LOT. This is what happens when adults make choices, Diary. The toddler suffers.

As BabyCenter notes, I am now a “budding conversationalist” who asks lots of questions. My question for last night: WHY IS THE TAXI SO EXPENSIVE AND WHY CAN’T I DRIVE. Nobody answered satisfactorily.

The Fall Recovery Report & Santa Season Has Arrived

In other news: remember that fall I took a few days ago? The one that was genuinely traumatic and I stand by every single tear I cried?

Update: I am healing. The pain is going away. I am resilient. I am strong. I am basically a warrior. Toddlers fall a lot — apparently it’s completely normal at this age because we’re still mastering balance and coordination — but I want everyone to know that MY fall was especially dramatic and I handled it with great dignity (after the screaming part).

NOW. The most exciting development of this week:

School has set up CHRISTMAS PHOTO SPOTS WITH SANTA CLAUS. 🎅

There are decorations. There are props. There is an Ông Già Noel setup and I posed in it and it was GLORIOUS. Christmas at 25 months hits differently when you actually understand what’s happening. Lights! Colors! A large man in a red suit who apparently brings gifts! According to The Bump, by around my age I can combine words into little sentences — and mine this week has been “More Santa.” Over and over. The teachers found it cute. I found it necessary.

And speaking of Christmas — I have a Very Important Question for Baba:

  • Are we going to visit a church this year? 🙏
  • Like we did in previous years?
  • With the lights and the people and the whole festive chaos?
  • BABA. PLEASE. I am asking nicely. (For now.)

I don’t know if we will. But I am manifesting it. Hard.

In summary: last night was a grand adventure, Baba is K39 (historically ancient, deeply loved), I survived my fall like a champion, and Christmas is coming and I am READY.
